The worst snow weather has subsided. Now Norwegians are enjoying a few days of lovely autumn weather, at least in southern Norway.

This week there is still snow in the mountains in several parts of the country, but it is a nice fall week in the lowlands, especially in southern Norway.

The worst snow weather has subsided. Now Norwegians are enjoying a few days of lovely autumn weather, at least in southern Norway.

The past weekend felt like winter in earnest in Norway. The big snowfall caused chaos for motorists and people were encouraged to leave their car if the tires were stuck in place.

This week there is still snow in the mountains in several parts of the country, but it is a nice fall week in the lowlands, especially in southern Norway.

“Eastern Norway comes out best this week,” said state meteorologist John Smit at the Norwegian Meteorological Institute. The nice weather comes from a high pressure system from the west which will pass through large parts of southern Norway during the week.

Over the next couple days snow is expected in the mountains, especially in the northern ranges on the west coast.

“The snow line is creeping down. Tuesday night it will be quite low. Then, there might be snow all the way down to 300-400 meters in the north on the West Coast.”

“Farther south, the snowline is at 600 meters,” said meteorologist Geir Ottar Fagerlid, on the West Coast weather forecast.

In Northern Norway there will be cool weather, and from Wednesday on there is the possibility of storms.
Northern Norway is in for some wet weather later this week.

Northern Norway is in for some wet weather later this week.

“There will be a northwest wind that will bring snow and sleet storms in the inner and higher areas. The snow line is around 400 meters,” says the meteorologist on duty in Northern Norway, Stine Karlsen Gya.

In the middle of the week, weather will be better on the west coast, and the sun will even peek out a little. “On Wednesday a high-pressure system will provide good weather. There will be periods of sun, but the temperature drops at night so we must wait for frost on the night of Thursday and Friday,” says Fagerlid.

High pressure systems will remain until Friday afternoon, when they will be replaced by a low pressure system that will result in rain and rain showers throughout the weekend. “There will be another round of precipitation and the temperature will rise. Next week the north wind comes back, winter is on track and everything will be back to normal for the weather in October,” says Fagerlid.

Northern Norway must expect rain showers and rising temperatures this week. “The weather is generally poor in northern Norway this week. It is typical autumn weather with rain and showers,” says Stine Karlsen Gya, in the forecast for northern Norway.

This weekend there will be an improvement and a slight increase in temperatures.

“There will be less rain over the weekend. With the northwest wind comes hot air, and then there will be less rain,” said the meteorologist.
