Violinist Catharina Chen in New York

Award-winning Norwegian violinist, Catharina Chen takes to the New York stage at Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall on March 5th, with iPalpiti Orchestra.

Catharina’s status as one of Norway’s most promising young classical musicians (a first prize winner in consecutive national violin competitions in Norway in 1996, 1998, 2000, and 2002) has earned her several major awards  including The Norwegian Music Publishers’ Union “Prize of Honour”(2002), and the  “Karoline Prize” for high achievement by in culture (2003).  Along with Romanian violinst and iPalpiti Atists International alumnus Alexandru Tomescu.

The acclaimed iPalpiti Orchestra will arrive in New York for its Zankel Hall concert at Carnegie Hall on March 5th, 2009. Under the direction of Maestro Eduard Schmieder, this ensemble of prize-winning musicians from around the globe has played to sold-out audiences in major concert halls throughout the world and in New York will present artists from 18 countries ranging from Kazakhstan to Norway and beyond.

Born in Oslo, Norway in 1985, Catharina began studying violin at the age of 5 with her father. Since the age of eight she has soloed with all major orchestras in Norway, including the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Tromso Symphony Orchestra, Oslo Camerata, and ZKO-Zuricher Chamber Orchestre. Well known to Norwegians through television and radio broadcast programs*, Catharina is the recipient of numerous awards, and the youngest musician in Norway ever to be awarded the highly respected and prestigious Oslo City Culture Prize.
