Norway condemns attack on UN Office

Norway condemns the attack on the World Food Program’s (WFP) office in Islamabad on Oct. 5.

Five people working for WFP have now been confirmed dead after what local police are describing as a suicide bomb attack at the WFP offices in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. The attack took place at 12:15 local time on Monday. A number of injured – some of whom are in a critical condition – are being treated in hospital.

“This is an attack on basic humanitarian and humane principles,” says Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

Støre describes the attack as deeply tragic, and points to the fact that UN’s representatives are there to offer help to those in need, and are not part in any conflict.

“Our thoughts and condolenses go to colleagues of those killed and to the deprived, “ the Norwegian Foreign Minister says.

Støre says that for Norway it is important to contribute to a respect for international humanitarian principles, and ensure that international humanitarian organixations have freedom of action in conflicts.
