Less than one week left to save NAW
With time running short, a benefactor offers to match Indiegogo donations
There’s less than one week left in our Save the Norwegian American Weekly Indiegogo campaign. It’s the final push. If you’ve been waiting, now’s your chance. And other such enticements.
We are so grateful to everyone who’s donated so far. We’ve raised an incredible $11,875 through the campaign and another $12,836 in mailed-in donations! That’s $24,711, within striking distance of our goal of $30,000. Given that we intend to keep publishing come hell or high water (or low funds—to a point), you may be wondering why you should contribute to the campaign now.
For one thing, this is your only chance to claim terrific perks like one of the mini-nisser, a Nils Anders Wik magnet, the chance to be a DJ for a day on the Scandinavian Hour with Doug Warne, an original postcard short story written by our editor Emily C. Skaftun, the limited edition “final” issue of NAW, and much more. Want the one and only original Nils Anders Wik to come visit you? Act now.
As an added bonus, every 5th donor* will be sent a random book from our bookshelves. Books include the first two books of Vidar Sundstøl’s Minnesota trilogy, poetry, nonfiction, folktales, knitting, and something for younger readers. You choose which book you take home from the list of remaining titles!
But wait, there’s more: an anonymous benefactor has agreed to match all donations (up to $5,000) to the Indiegogo campaign during the final week! Donate now and double the effect of your contribution!** The spending power of Norwegian Americans hasn’t increased this much since the U.S. dollar got up to 8 kroner.
Yes, we’re going to keep soldiering on either way, but we need this money to help cover the basic costs of producing and mailing the paper, and to pay for advertising, which we’ve come to see is the only way to boost our subscription numbers to the point that we’ll be self-sufficient. For a detailed breakdown of our costs, read this.
Your support means so much to us. Please help us meet our goal and be a part of saving this 126-year-old publishing tradition!
*Only donations of $10 or more will be eligible. You must provide a U.S. mailing address. While supplies last.
**Matching will be based on donations made to the Indiegogo campaign only (no mail-ins) between Friday, April 24, 2015, and Wednesday, April 29. Limit of $5,000.
