Fear of attacks on Norwegian politicians
Head of the Norwegian Police Security Branch (PST), Jørn Holme, says to the newspaper VG that the PST fears attacks on Norwegian politicians during the upcoming election campaign, and that they are preparing for such situations.
We have so far seen few concrete actions against politicians in Norway, but those we have seen have come without forewarning. We are now entering into a period of election campaigning, and we are prepared for more of these incidents, Holme says. He expects both threats and concrete attacks. “I am not talking about murder, but about the fact that politicians may experience unpleasant situations,” Holme says. In the Revised National Budget the PST was allocated an extra NOK 25 million, and some of this money will be spent on strenghtening the bodyguard services for politicians.
