Fantastic festival week in Oslo

Oslo confirms its status as the live music capital of Scandinavia this week, with four big festivals and hundreds of concerts in a multitude of genres. Music lovers can choose from pop, rock, jazz, blues, chamber music, hip-hop and much more. Check the festival calendar for a complete overview.

Oslo Jazz Festival started this weekend and lasts until Saturday August 16. The festival offers 70 concerts on 17 different stages. Tickets are available at www.billettservice.no and telephone 815 33 133.

The Øya Festival (Øyafestivalen) kicks off with 100 bands on almost 30 stages on Club Day August 11 and continues August 12-15  in the Medieval Park. A number of “Øya Night” (Øyanatt) concerts will also be held every night of the festival. The festival in Medieval Park is sold out, but at least 50 day passes will be available at the entrance every day at 11 am.

Oslo Chamber Music Festival opens in Oslo Concert Hall on August 14 and continues until August 22. On August 20 at 8 pm Eurovision winner Alexander Rybak and Frikar will perform outdoors at Akershus fortress. Festival tickets are on sale at www.billettservice.no and telephone 815 33 133.

The multicultural Mela Festival will take place in City Hall square August 14-16. The festival is free and offers entertainment and activities for the whole family, including concerts, dance performances, fashion shows, theatre and various children’s activities.

Blues fans can also enjoy a mini festival this week, as Oslo Blues Club is celebrating its move to Buckleys with a 4-day concert stand there August 12-15 .

In addition to all the festivals, there will be a free outdoor concert at City Hall square Thursday August 13 at 7 pm. The Oslo Philharmonic will perform Beethoven’s Symphony no. 9, “Ode to Joy”.

Popular Danish rocker Kim Larsen will also perform in Oslo August 13. His concert with Kjukken at Youngstorget starts at 9 pm, and tickets are available at www.billettservice.no and telephone 815 33 133.
