The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc Album Release: BONFROST
The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc builds on their Avant-Folk vision with new album, BONFROST, out February 19.
Kevin Henderson from the Shetland Islands, Olav Luksengård Mjelva from Norway, and Anders Hall from Sweden are master musicians with a broad stylistic range rooted in three of the world’s richest fiddling traditions. The group’s latest effort not only features traditional songs from Shetland, Norway, and Sweden, some dating back to the 19th century, but original songs in a neo-traditional style, including Mjelva’s “Frygg,” his tribute to the groundbreaking Finnish band Frigg, “one of the greatest Nordic bands ever.” Their influences also include American fiddlers Mark O’Connor, Rodney Miller, and Gabe Witcher from Punch Brothers.
More information about the band and where to find their album is available on their website.
