Sámi Flag Installation at Leif Erikson Lodge and Meet Sandra Andersen Eira, Sámi Parliamentarian
August 4 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Sons of Norway Leif Erikson Lodge invites you to a very special event. Sandra Andersen Eira, a representative of the Sámi Parliament in Norway, will help to install the lodge’s new Sámi flag and talk about her experiences in the Norwegian Government and her life as a Sámi.
Ms. Eira is from Northern Norway in Finnmark, an hour south of the North Cape. Her family consists of both fishermen and reindeer herders, a tradition dating back thousands of years. As a Sámi Parliamentarian, she is involved with many facets of the Government but fisheries and marine affairs are her main focus.
Besides her work in Government, Sandra Eira is a captain of a commercial fishing vessel. Only one percent of commercial fishing boat captains are women. She is also involved with various media projects and was featured in a documentary, “Sea Sisters,” a film about her experiences as a captain in a mainly male field.
Leif Erikson Lodge invites you to meet this very talented and interesting representative of the Sámi Parliament. There will be time for questions from the audience. There is no charge for this special event and complimentary Norwegian desserts along with coffee, tea, and soft drinks will be served. Skandia Kapell, a seven-member group of fine musicians, will be playing during the evening.
