Registration deadline: Online FamilieKlubb: Try Paper Cutting!

17 September, 2021

Looking for a fun way to explore Norwegian culture with your family on your own schedule? Vesterheim’s FamilieKlubb is for you! Learn some Norwegian words and phrases and a new Scandinavian handcraft each month, and do it when it works for your family’s schedule!

Join celebrated Danish paper cutter Torben Clausen Jarlstrøm and discover the magic you can create with nothing more than paper and a pair of scissors! Torben will show how to create a character’s face with just a few cuts and will inspire you to explore your own world of paper creations! In addition, language instructor Evelyn Galstad will help you learn some Norwegian words and phrases!

Supplies: The $20-per-family price covers the cost of a special folk-art class kit designed for two participants to explore paper cutting. Kit includes all folk-art materials needed, some images as inspiration, a Norwegian vocabulary list, and a treat.

Registration and Shipping Instructions: Register online here. Kits are mailed out in time for you to begin your project on October 1. Only one adult should register for the intergenerational family duo. When registering for the class, please make sure to use the address you’d like the kit shipped to, and the email address you’d like communications to be sent to. You will receive links to the video sessions by email. If this class is a gift, please sign up with the recipient’s mailing and email addresses or be prepared to forward all communications and/or kit supplies.

If you are registering for this class in a location outside the United States, you will need to provide your own supplies. Please contact aellingsen@vesterheim.org when you register for more information about what materials are required for this class.

Special Instructions: This series has been designed to facilitate an intergenerational folk-art experience for an adult and child duo to do together. Because of the specialized materials in each kit, we recommend this activity for children over the age of eight with adult supervision.

Note: This program has been designed for families to experience on their own schedules. There is no live Zoom event and no scheduled class time – your family can participate anytime during the month when it works for your schedule! On the first of the month, you will receive an email with the links to the teaching video.

This is a youth and family-oriented program designed for adults and children ages 8-18. We offer online adult folk art classes on our website here.

Enrollment Deadline: September 17, 2021
