ONLINE: Virtual Norwegian Cooking Classes

Sons of Norway District 5, Norwegian-Americans in Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana, will host six virtual Norwegian cooking classes February 15–March 22. Classes will meet from 6–7:30 p.m. Mondays on Zoom. Experienced Norwegian-American cooks will share traditional and experimental approaches to Scandinavian cooking. Family heirloom recipes handed down through generations and modern adaptations of recipes will be explored. Classes are limited to 20 students. Participants will receive recipes a week before each class. Cost is $25 for SON members and $50 for others. Make checks payable to Nordic Legacy Foundation.

Instructors will be Connie Aiello of SON Nordlyset Lodge, Racine, Wis.; and Nancy and Duane Kittleson of SON Vennelag Lodge, Mt. Horeb, Wis.
The class schedule is:
Feb. 15: Lefse and rullepøls taught by the Kittlesons. Aiello will teach remaining classes.
Feb. 22: Lapskaus (pork stew), knekkbrød (crispbread) and Troll cream (lingonberry dessert)
March 1: Kjøttboller (meat patties), agurksalat (cucumber salad), rødkål (red cabbage) and lingonberry lemonade
March 8: Får i kål (lamb and cabbage), Viking bread, knekk-kaker (lace cookies) and lingonberry cocktails
March 15: Traditional, anise with lingonberry cream and pumpkin Hjerte Vafler (heart waffles)
March 22: Eggesalat (egg salad) open-faced sandwiches
