The National Nordic Museum has partnered with Pratt Fine Arts Center to create a virtual landscape painting class and exhibition program for summer 2021. Students enrolled in this summer camp with Pratt Fine Arts will get a virtual tour from the curator of the Museum’s temporary exhibition, Among Forests & Lakes: Landscape Masterpieces from the Finnish National Gallery. During the week-long program, students will then create a landscape masterpiece of their own in response. Afterward, paintings will be displayed in a virtual exhibition on the Museum’s website.
This week-long program runs from June 21–25, 1:30–4:30pm. This program is specifically for teenagers age 13–18.
The students’ work will be featured in a virtual exhibition displayed on the Museum’s website, with the potential to show student work in a slideshow in the Museum galleries as well. As a part of participating in this camp, students will also get free admission for themselves and one accompanying adult to see Among Forests & Lakes in person. Among Forests and Lakes is on display at the National Nordic Museum May 6–October 17, 2021. This exhibition examines how Finnish artists have depicted the landscape of their native country from 1850s to the present day and explores how the Finnish landscape and these works of art contributed to the creation of a Finnish national identity. With over 50 works in this exhibition, students from Pratt Fine Arts will gain a greater understanding of Nordic art history and the connections between art and culture in Finland.
Cost: $200; tickets are purchased through Pratt Fine Arts Center’s website here
