ONLINE: Family Handcraft at Home: Try Rosemaling!
Rosemaling or rose painting is a decorative painting technique characterized by scrolls, leaves, and flowers and has been traditionally applied to woodenware. Several distinctive styles developed throughout Norway. Vesterheim invites you to try your hand at this historical handcraft. You’ll learn how to try different brushstrokes, resulting in beautiful decorative painting. Beloved Vesterheim folk-art apprentice and elementary art educator, Jill Willems, will inspire you to be creative in unexpected ways through a warm video demonstration. The best thing about this class is that you can watch the video and open your kit materials to explore rosemaling whenever it is most convenient to you and your family members! Your registration provides you with a kit that includes everything you need to do family handcraft at home!
Supplies: The $20-per-family price covers the cost of a special folk-art class kit designed for two participants to explore rosemaling. Kit includes all folk-art materials needed, some images as inspiration from the Vesterheim Collection, and a treat.
Special Instructions: This series has been designed to facilitate an intergenerational folk-art experience for an adult and child duo to do together. Because of the specialized folk-art materials in each kit, we recommend this activity for children over the age of eight with adult supervision. When registering for the class, please make sure to use the address you’d like the kit shipped to. Kits are mailed out as registration and payment are completed so that you will be able to begin your project on March 1. Only one adult should register for the intergenerational family duo.
This is a youth and family-oriented program designed for adults and children ages 8-18. Vesterheim offers online adult folk art classes on their website here.
