ONLINE: Concert—Reverdie

(rə̇-verdē) The Return of Spring: to become green again. A song, poem or dance performed in celebration of the arrival of Spring.

Nordic Northwest and Portland Chamber Orchestra partner again with an online live streaming concert from Nordia House. Celebrate spring with award-winning young violinist Hanami Froom. Hanami will captivate with a variety of solo works, including Bach’s complex Sonata No. 3 in C major, as well as masterworks transcribed for violin/piano duo, which include the virtuosic Chaconne by Vitali. the program also presents lyrical and poignant works from Nordic composers Sibelius and Sinding.

Hanami will be accompanied by celebrated pianist Maria Garcia, who will present lively works from Chopin and Grieg. This will be Hanami’s debut with Portland Chamber Orchestra; she will be the featured guest artist in PCO’s Spring 2022 concert.

Hanami Froom
Fifteen year old violinist, Hanami Froom started violin when she was 2 years old and currently studies with Carol Sindell. Hanami appeared as a soloist with the Oregon Symphony at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in February 2020. Hanami made her solo debut with orchestra when she was 6 years old and since then, has soloed with the MetroArts orchestra in 2016 and 2018, the Jewish Community Orchestra in 2016, the Portland Youth Philharmonic Conservatory Orchestra in 2018 and 2019, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in 2021 as a winner of their competitions. Hanami has been a member of the Portland Youth Philharmonic since she was 7 years old, and it is her 3rd year as co-concertmaster. Hanami is a freshman at Oregon Virtual Academy but takes senior classes. In her free time, Hanami enjoys cooking, singing, and journaling.

Maria Garcia
Maria began piano studies in her native Puerto Rico at the age of four. At the age of ten she made her debut with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra. She received a Bachelor’s of Music with Distinction in Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music. Graduate studies followed at SUNY Stony Brook where she received a full merit scholarship and completed a Master’s Degree in Music as well as Doctoral Studies. Her principal teachers have been Luz M. Hutchinson, Victor Rosenbaum and Gilbert Kalish. An active chamber musician and soloist, Ms. Garcia has performed throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Czech and Slovak Republics, Norway, Canada, Israel, Venezuela, Tunisia, Colombia and Puerto Rico with groups like the Mark Morris Dance Company, her former Piano Trio Melànge, Bamberg String Quartet, Madawaska String Quartet, Musical Chairs Ensemble, and Poetica Musica. She has participated in international festivals such as the Bergen (Norway) Festival and the Casals (Puerto Rico) Festivals and has collaborated with members of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre Orchestra, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and many other international orchestras, and with artists such as soprano Christine Goerke, violinist Mayuko Kamio, and trombonist Joseph Alessi. She now makes her home in beautiful Portland. She is a founding member of 20 Digitus Duo, and is a sought after collaborative pianist and teacher.
