Emma and Lucas most popular in 2010

2010 was a year with small changes in the use of names. Emma and Lucas/Lukas continued to be the top names, and Linnea and Emil maintained 2nd place. We have to go to 3rd place to find changes from 2009: Mathias and Sara.

We believe the trend with girls’ names ending with “a” or “ah” has peaked. Fifty-two per cent of the girls born in 2010 were given such names. Twenty per cent of the boys follow the international trend with names from the Bible. This trend is also at its peak.

Local variations are difficult to find, but Mohammad is still the most popular boys’ name in Oslo.
