Let’s celebrate summer!

Dear readers and friends,
Summer is here, and it’s time to celebrate! I hope you all had a wonderful Fourth of July with your family and friends and that you are enjoying happy days in the sunshine.
Yes, these days, positive things are happening all around us: vaccination rates are up, masks are being shed, and businesses are thriving once again. While we still can’t travel to Norway, destinations are opening up, and Americans are hitting the road again.
Here at The Norwegian American, this is one of our favorite issues, with its focus on summer recreation. We are especially excited to present you with a preview of Team Norway at the Tokyo Summer Olympics. While the games will be a little different this year with no international spectators, we hope this special feature will get you in the mood to have just as much fun as ever, as you tune in at home and root for your favorite team.
You may even want to order the Tokyo sweater from Dale of Norway, the perfect addition to your summer wardrobe. Our business and sports editor, Michael Kleiner, has made sure that you have all the information you need to celebrate the Summer Olympics, Norwegian-style.
We are also looking back on summers of the past with a sneak peek at a new book by Håvard Mossige, full of photo, trivia, and other fun. It’s a nostalgic look at summer days gone by in Norway. Even if you don’t have your own memories from Norway, you will certainly be inspired and reminded of other cherished summer memories.
Our summer reading recommendations are always a big part of this special issue, and we are very lucky to have so many talented contributors to review a great selection of books to enjoy. I don’t know about you, but I’ve already got a pile of books stacked up to be consumed during my summer vacation.
Yes, we love summer, but this is also a challenging time of the year for us at the newspaper in terms of revenue flow—and this is where you can help. If your subscription is up for renewal, please don’t forget to send in your payment. It’s also a great time to think about giving a subscription to someone special to you.
And, as always, we are very grateful for your donations, both big and small. We put your money to good work to bring a better product to you, as we are making improvements every day.
Finally, I would like to once again thank our extended team for their support—without their talent and hard work, our very special newspaper would not come together.
