DR Congo court rejects appeal by Norwegians
A military tribunal in the northern Democratic Republic of Congo rejected an appeal on Thursday by two Norwegians who had been sentenced to death for the murder of their driver.
“The military court of Orientale province confirms the decision of the original judge” who handed down the sentences to Tjostolv Moland, 28, and Joshua French, 27, the appeal court’s president Colonel Pascal Molida said at the end of a four-hour judgment.
The pair were convicted in September of the May 5 murder of the driver of a vehicle they rented in Kisangani in mineral-rich Orientale province.
The two, who were in Kisangani either as tourists or on business depending on varying reports, have said their driver was killed by bandits. They have maintained their innocence.
