DNV to assess the refurbishment of Czech power plant

PRAGUE: DNV has signed a contract with the Czech Ministry of the Environment to conduct an assessment of the refurbishment plans for the Prunéřov II power plant. The findings of the assessment will be presented in March at a press conference in Prague at which both the Czech Ministry of the Environment and DNV will be present.

DNV was chosen for the project due to its previous experience of project assessments in the energy and climate change areas as well as its capacity to deliver the assessment quickly.

The project will be carried out by a team of DNV experts from different countries.

The scope of work comprises three parts:

Part A: Compliance assessment compared to the BREF (Reference Document on Best Available Techniques) on energy efficiency and large combustion plants, including an evaluation of local conditions that could justify deviations.

Part B: Quality assessment of the environmental impact assessment, with a special focus

on relevance, completeness, accuracy, reliability and transparency.

Part C: Calculation of the project’s CO2 emissions compared to full BREF compliance. In this part of the project, the CO2 impact of the observed deviations from BREF will be assessed in comparison to full compliance with BREF. If relevant, the difference in CO2 emissions will be calculated for each deviation. The total impact will also be assessed by combining the contributions from all the individual deviations.
