Complications in air travel meant that Crown Princess Mette-Marit had to represent the royal family in Denmark.
Crown Princess Mette-Marit arrived at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen alone Thursday night. There, she attended the gala performance in honor of the Danish queen Margrethe, Margrethe, who turns 70 years on Friday.
Originally, Queen Sonja and King Harald were to attend Thursday, but complications with air travel meant that the royal house had changed the plans. Neither the Swedish royal couple had arrived.
Crown Prince Haakon, who was traveling by car from London, had no chance to reach in time for the performance. Instead Crown Princess Mette-Marit arrived with their good friends, the Danish Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary.
From the Swedish royal family was Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling and Prince Carl Philip. In addition, the presidents of Iceland and Finland with their spouses. All of the Danish royal family was also present, including Prince Joachim and Princess Marie.
There were more than 1,200 guests invited.
