The royal couple met Monday with President Felipe Calderon at the presidential residence in Mexico City. They are also scheduled to visit the Gulf coast state of Veracruz, where Crown Prince Haakon will visit an offshore Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel in the Gulf of Mexico, equipped with mostly Norwegian equipment.

President Calderon suggested the two nations work together on issues like climate change and the world financial crisis, noting that “in a globalized world, responsibilities are also global.”

Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit said Norway is interested in cooperating more in Mexico’s oil industry.

Prince Haakon says he brought “a broad delegation of businessmen who will discuss greater cooperation in the energy sector.” He also praised Mexico’s artistic and cultural life, after visiting the Frida Kahlo museum in Mexico City.
