Celebrating Queen Margrethe
On Sunday evening, Their Majesties King Harald and Queen Sonja and Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit attended the gala dinner at Christiansborg Castle.
The dinner is the great celebration of Her Majesty Queen Margrethe of Denmark and her reign as Regent for forty years.
The Gala Dinner will take place in the Knight’s Hall – the largest representation of the premises. The hall is decorated with motifs from Denmark’s history, and three large paintings symbolizing the legislative, the executive and the judiciary systems.
At 12:00 noon, the Norwegian royals attended the Royal Changing of the Guard at Amalienborg Palace. Amalienborg consists of four almost identical palaces, surrounding an octagonal space. At Castle Square thousands had gathered who wanted to greet Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik. The Danish Royal Family came out on the balcony of Christian IX palace and waved to the many in attendance.
Earlier in the day, Their Majesties King Harald and Queen Sonja and Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit attended the festive service in the castle church at Christiansborg.
