Bernander New Director General of NHO
John G. Bernander, the former Director General of the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK), is appointed new Director General of the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO).
Bernander was born in New York City, but grew up in Kristiansand, Norway. During the years 1989-1993 he was a representative for Høyre, the Conservative Party of Norway, in Stortinget. In 1991, he became vice-chairman of the party.
The NHO is the main representative body for Norwegian employers with a current membership of over 18,500 companies ranging from small family-owned businesses to multinational companies.
In addition to the central organisation in Oslo, which has cross sectoral responsibility for members` interests, members also belong to one of 21 nationwide sectoral federations and one of 15 regional associations. The sectoral associations protect branch-related interests with the regional associations offering a local point of contact between companies and authorities.
