In loving memory: Berit Inger Brown

Berit Inger Brown (née Jensen), aged 86, passed away on July 18, 2024, in Ithaca, .N.Y. Born in Drammen, Norway, she moved to the United States in 1959 after falling in love with Brooklyn, N,Y.,  native, David O. Brown.

Berit dedicated her life to her family and her academic pursuits, earning a Ph.D. from Stony Brook University, N.Y., in 1987.

Her intellectual passions lay in history and reading, complemented by her love for knitting and other handwork, often inspired by her Norwegian heritage. She was lifelong member of the Sons of Norway and always had a subscription to The Norwegian-American from the time when it was published as the Nordisk Tidene and The Norway Times.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Randi Millman-Brown of Ithaca, N.Y., and Erik Brown of Martinez, Calif., and spouses Keith Millman and Kara Brown. Her grandchildren, Mathea Millman of Berlin, Germany, Gabriel Millman of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Angie and Bella Brown of Martinez, Calif., also survive her. Berit was preceded in death by her husband, David O. Brown, in 2003.

A private ceremony was held in Ithaca, and there will be a small ceremony in Drammen, Norway, in the future.
