Arrests made in Oslo murder case
23 year old Hans Rickard Strømner was found dead under a tarpaulin which was lying under a couch in Klemetsrud in Oslo on Thursday of last week. He had been officially missing since August 13 of this year.
The 21-year-old ex-girlfriend of Strømnes has been arrested for the murder, along with a friend of hers. The two are charged with willful murder or complicity in the murder.
Police Inspector Hanne Kristin Rohde talked about the arrest at a police press conference at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
“Oslo police, in cooperation with law enforcement authorities, charged two people for the murder at Klemetsrud. Both of those arrested have been arrested and charged today.”
The first is the former girlfriend of Strømner. The other is a friend (22) of his ex-girlfriend.
Neither of them are known to the police from earlier.
The motive for the killing is not yet clear.
“There has been a series of seizures in the apartment where Strømner and his girlfriend lived, but I can not get into the details of what we have found,” says Rohde.
Rohde still does not know how Strømner were killed, but does not preclude that Strømner was moved to the site. One of the two accused has been previously questioned as a witness in the case.
The police can not rule out more arrests in the case.
Recent signs of life from Strømner were signals from his mobile phone, which were recorded at Rock Crystal east of Oslo.
He had been going for walks a lot in the area where he was found dead, and his friends have repeatedly been out looking for him in various outdoor areas.
Friends who knew him well describe him as a timid person who was afraid of crowds and strangers. He also may have had substance abuse problems at times.
“We do not know the time of death as of now. But recent observations of him were in early July, so that is possibily the time,” said police inspector Hanne Kristin Rohde Tuesday morning.
According to Rohde, there were several reasons why it took so long to identify Strømner.
“It is partly because the deceased had been there so long, which has made identification difficult,” said Rohde.
