Every day is a “Norwegian Day” in Liberec
Although the organizers of the FIS Nordic Ski World Championships have designated some days as national days, basically every day is a “Norwegian Day”. The reason is simple: Norwegian fans have taken a total control of the Championships. Every day basically belongs to them.
However, in the schedule of social events accompanying the World Championships the official Norwegian Day fell on Thursday, 26 February. And it was a real success. The Norwegian Ladies relay team didn´t have much good luck and they finished in an ungrateful fourth place but their fans didn´t let it spoil their good mood. They arrived in the Regional Plaza in the early evening hours to help create the right atmosphere. At the information stand there was available a free brochure about the sights of the Norwegian capital and its surroundings. The next Nordic World Ski Championships are going to take place in Oslo and pictures of a futuristic ski jump area made one anticipate an exceptional spectacle. The Norwegian fans themselves provided a spectacle for Liberec. They arrived in the Regional Plaza in folk costumes, with national flags and a band of drummers which was followed by a large singing crowd around the square.
The Norwegian Day – it wasn´t just a feast for the eyes only. Gourmets had a good time too. From five
o´clock tasting of traditional food took place, for example smoked salmon was delicious. At six o´clock Norwegian Happy Hour began in the Beer House on Papirove namesti. All visitors having with them or displaying on them any form of the Norwegian flag were treated to a free beer. Since Norwegians probably don´t like drinking on their own, they were happy to paint the Norwegian flag on the face of everyone.
