An Afternoon with the New Generation of Explorers
On November 13, the three Norwegian explorers Tormod Granheim, Matias Nordahl Carlsen, and Sturla Ellingvåg will hold a lecture at the Seamen’s Church in New York about their expeditions and remarkable encounters all around the world.
Tormod Granheim, Tormod Granheim and Sturla Ellingvåg represent a new generation of explorers who seek discoveries in three very different fields of exploration. This invitation to a Norwegian Night at Sjømannskirken will include three lectures (each 15 minutes) with slides and video clips showing how these Norwegians are traveling around the world on expeditions.
Tormod Granheim is the first person in the world to ski the North Face of Mount Everest. Granheim is one of the leading motivational speakers of Norway and will share the mysterious world of high altitude speed ascents and extreme skiing. Most people spend days climbing Everest, Granheim spent 24
hours. Most people reach their goal at the summit, Granheim reached the starting point for his true challenge: to ski the unskied north face.
Sturla Ellingvåg uses DNA and other new technologies to map human migrations. He is constantly searching for answers to ancient mysteries and will stop in New York on the way to his next research expedition in the Caribbean.
Matias Nordahl Carlsen mixes cinematography with art when he hitchhikes across continents with no money in his pockets. His approach to travel leads to beautiful encounters with the people of the world, insights he will share with members of the club. During his last expedition he raised 50 000 dollars for charity.
