Alan Jackson #1 in Norway?
Aug. 19, 2009 — It’s no surprise when we see Alan Jackson at the top of the charts right here in America. What might surprise you is Jackson’s most recent International chart topper in, of all places, Norway. His NORWEGIAN FAVORITES album hit the #1 spot on the charts in that country this past week, his first ever there.
I guess now we know why 20,000 fans clogged roadways and braved 9 hours in the rain to see Alan perform a concert in Bergen, Norway this past week. The tour also made stops in Skien, Norway, Eskilstuna, Sweden. All in all over 40,000 fans turned out for the Scandinavian tour stops.
Who knew there were so many rabid country fans in a place like Norway, a place where you’d expect to see ski boots and bobsleds, not cowboy boots and pickup trucks.
Jackson’s NORWEGIAN FAVORITES features a collection of 13 greatest hits including “Remember When,” “It’s Five o’Clock Somewhere,” “Sissy’s Song” and more. We did a little digging and found this commercial on YouTube promoting the Norwegian release.
Back here in the States, Jackson’s most recent collection, Good Time, became the fourth album of his career to debut simultaneously at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums and all-genre Billboard 200 sales charts. The 17-song release has netted three No.1 hits, “Good Time,” “Small Town Southern Man,” and “Country Boy,” and Jackson’s 50th Top 10 single “Sissy’s Song.” Jackson’s newest single, “I Still Like Bologna,” his ode to changing times and his continuing affection for a favorite sandwich, is climbing the charts.
