Aker Shipyard Delivers Sixth Tanker to American Shipping Company

Aker Philadelphia Shipyard (Oslo: AKPS) delivered its sixth MT-46 Veteran Product Tanker to American Shipping Company (Oslo: AMSC) on Feb. 19. The vessel will leave the yard under the operation of OSG America and will be used to transport petroleum products for Tesoro. This product tanker is the first of four vessels planned to be utilized by Tesoro.
A traditional naming ceremony was held at the shipyard and attended by representatives from Aker Philadelphia Shipyard, American Shipping Company, OSG and Tesoro. The ship’s sponsor, Mrs. Marcia Lewis, blessed the ship and all who will sail on her before officially naming her the Overseas Boston.

President and CEO of Aker Philadelphia Shipyard, Jim Miller remarked, “This vessel is the tenth vessel we have delivered since we first broke ground on our state-of-the art shipyard. With each quality vessel we continue to improve and in doing so help build our future and the future of Jones Act shipbuilding.” An additional three ships in the series of 12 tankers for American Shipping Company are under construction at the yard.

Aker Philadelphia Shipyard is a leading U.S. commercial shipyard constructing vessels for operation in the Jones Act market. It possesses a state-of-the-art shipbuilding facility and has earned a reputation as the preferred provider of oceangoing merchant vessels with a track record of delivering quality ships.
