Saxo Bank’s Norwegian Champion Kurt-Asle Arvesen Out With Broken Collarbone

At the hospital in Chateauroux this evening an examination of Team Saxo Bank’s Norwegian rider, Kurt-Asle Arvesen confirmed that the Norwegian champion has suffered a fracture on his left collarbone.

The experienced rider fought through a living hell on the last 100 kilometres of stage ten but will now have to watch the rest of this year’s edition of the Tour de France from his home. The fracture is so severe an operation will be necessary.  “I’m extremely disappointed by the way the Tour ends for my sake. It has been my main objective of the year and I have been riding hard to get ready for it. I had no chances of avoiding the crash and it is a very sad situation for me to see everything disappear. Naturally I wish the remaining eight riders good luck with the rest of the race,” stated a sore and tired Kurt-Asle Arvesen who now will be transported to Norway as quickly as possible where he is to undergo an operation.

“It’s simply impossible to replace Kurt and this is a very big blow to the team who will miss him for the rest of the Tour. He had peaked his shape perfectly and was just the right rider to lead his teammates during the stages. We are immensely sorry to see him leave the Tour this way and we hope he will soon recover,” says team owner Bjarne Riis.
