950 miles on skis for Norwegian Home Guard cadets
21 cadets and six officers from The Norwegian Home Guard’s officers’ training school have started on a four-month ski march across the northern parts of Norway.
The Norwegian Home Guard’s officers’ training school (Heimevernets befalsskole, HVBS) is being relocated from Værnes in the central region of Norway to Porsanger in Finnmark County. The cadets and officers have been chosen to mark the move, by skiing the 950 mile long distance. During the trip they will cross Nordland, Troms and Finnmark, the three northern counties in Norway.
On Feb. 3, Norwegian Minister of Defense Anne-Grete Strøm-Erichsen gave the starting shot for the march. Officer Ola Kviteng, the head of the troop, said the trip will be great physical, as well as mental training for the cadets.
