Norwegian Films at Minneapolis Film Festival

Skule Eriksen’s documentary “Fjord” from Nærøyfjord had it’s international premiere at the Minneapolis / St.Paul International Film Festival in the U.S. on April 18, 2010.

The film is an artistic interpretation of the landscape in Nærøyfjord through four seasons.

“Fjord” focuses on stem slopes, light and rhythms of the landscape. The film is financed by the Norwegian Film Institute’s scheme “New roads to the documentary film” and is produced by Ibis Film As in Bergen.

Kirsten Flaggstads

Kirsten Flagstad (1895-1962) is one of history’s greatest operatic voices, particularly famous for her fantastic Wagner interpretations. Her golden years were the interwar period, when she sang at opera houses around the world. Then World War II broke out.

Flagstad was married to Henry Johansen, who did business with the Nazis. After the war she was accused of being a Nazi sympathizer. Flagstad met her critics with silence. She continued her opera career and established the Norwegian Opera in 1957, paying the singers out of her own pocket.

This film is a restoration of Kirsten Flagstad’s reputation – both as an artist and as a human being. It crushes the myths and prejudices against her as a Nazi sympathizer once and for all. (Norwegian Film Institute)
