Norwegian National Treasure Hauk Buen joining Kenneth de Gala and Olav Sem at HFAA Workshops on July 16 – 19 at the Folklore Village, Dodgeville, WI.

The HFAA will bring back hardingfele master Hauk Buen for his third time teaching at our annual workshop. Hauk will join prizewinning dance fiddler Kenneth de Gala from Norway and Americans Andrea Een and Rachel Nesvig on our hardingfele teaching staff to provide one of the richest and most intensive hardingfele learning experiences to be had anywhere–even in Norway!

The last time Hauk Buen taught at the HFAA, in 2006, students flew in from as far away as England for a chance to learn from him. Hauk is a tradition-bearer with a lifetime of deep knowledge of his music who loves to share his knowledge and his exquisite playing in teaching sessions, concerts and dances. His dance fiddling style is considered by many of the best dancers in Telemark to epitomize the lightness and energy that allows one to dance for hours without feeling tired, simply being carried along by the music.

Olav Sem is a wonderful Telemark dancer and singer and an inspiring teacher who shares a lifetime of stories and experience with his classes. The workshop this summer will be a don’t-miss experience for dancers and hardingfele players alike!
