10th Anniversary of the Norway Lake Log Church
The Norway Lake Lutheran Historical Association will hold the 10th anniversary celebration of the Norway Lake Log Church on August 15 and 16, 2009.
Featured speaker on Sunday afternoon will include Gary Gandrud, Norwegian Honorary Counsel to the Midwest. Friday night’s vesper service will be led by Pastor Dean Elton Johnson and Sunday morning’s 10:00 am worship will be officiated by Bishop Jon Anderson of the SWMN Synod of the ELCA and former member of Crow River Lutheran Church near Belgrade.
This year’s annual fundraising event will showcase 2 notable historians in the Sunburg area, Pastor Joel Njus and his father Pastor Nils Njus. Both men served as pastors in the Lutheran Church. Pastor Nils Njus officiated at the 1916 gathering at the original log church site. Pastor Joel was instrumental in organizing the group that constructed the replica of the first church in the area. This log church was important as the congregation from which several area Lutheran congregations sprang forth.
The association has also restored a log cabin originally constructed in 1862 on the site located near Sunburg, Minnesota. This is our major fundraising event of the year and all are invited to come and renew your Scandinavian Heritage.
