Telenor ranked in top five on Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes

The company is recognized for its persistent and long-term corporate responsibility efforts

Telenor Group is one of the top five performers on the 2010/2011 Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI), which assesses companies based on their combined performance on a range of economic, social and environmental criteria.

“Our ranking on the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes is in recognition of our persistent and long-term efforts,” said Mai Oldgard, Vice President and Head of Group Corporate Responsibility. “It also illustrates that business-integrated corporate responsibility (CR) yields results.”

Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes

The Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) track the financial performance of the world’s leading companies in terms of corporate sustainability performance. The DJSI family currently comprises a set of global benchmarks which include the best-in-class companies on a global scale, as well as a set of European, North American, and Asia Pacific indexes that include sustainability leaders on a regional scale.

Telenor Group is again listed as a member on the DJSI, the world’s most comprehensive analysis of companies in terms of sustainability. Only the top 10 percent of companies are recognized as members. In the Mobile Telecommunications category five companies are listed, in which Deutsche Telekom ranks first.

The analysis, which is performed by SAM Research, is based on in-depth responses to approximately 100 questions on economic, social and environmental performance, as well as publicly available information.

Telenor achieved good scores in a number of areas within the three categories, including improving its performance on “Climate Strategy” and the top score in “Digital Inclusion” and “Impact of Telecommunication Services”. Telenor also improved its score on “Standards for Suppliers”, illustrating that its efforts in this area are beginning to yield results.
