Norwegian painter Marit Eik honors President Obama and Ambassador Whitney for their work

The United States Embassy’s Public Affairs Section, in Oslo welcomed acclaimed painter Marit Eik to the Embassy to receive two pieces of art on behalf of the Ambassador and the President in April.

Eik has participated in several exhibitions worldwide, winning many awards for her work. Inspired by the ambitious agenda put forward by President Obama, and recognizing the efforts that Ambassador Whitney has made to keep the ties between the U.S. and Norway strong, Eik sought to honor these two leaders by presenting them with each their painting.

The painting pictured, which Eik wished to give to President Obama, is called “Under the same hat” and symbolizes peace and harmony among all people regardless of skin color, religion or background. The painting was made during the Presidential campaign, in acrylic on canvas. After Mr. Barack Obama became President of the United States as the first African-American the painter had a strong wish to give the painting as a personal gift to both the President and his wife to congratulate them.
