More rental housing for people in difficulties

“A lot of people have applied for funding in order to set up rental housing this year. We are increasing funding for rental housing by NOK 88.8 million in 2010 in a revised national budget. This means that The Norwegian State Housing Bank can provide funding for around 1150 homes this year,” says Liv Signe Navarsete, Minister of Local Government and Regional Development.

Including this increase in the revised national budget, the framework for funding for rental housing will amount to NOK 400 million in 2010.

“The Norwegian State Housing Bank has an important part to play for the municipalities in their efforts to create roofs over people’s heads. A lot of municipalities do not have enough rental housing for people in difficulties. This funding for housing is important to create more such housing, and I am pleased to see that the municipalities are giving priority to people who are struggling on the housing market,” says Navarsete.

Activities relating to funding for rental housing underwent a massive increase in 2009. Among other things, this came about due to an extension of the scope of assurances in a measures package. This high level of activity has persisted throughout 2010. Over the first quarter of the year, The Norwegian State Housing Bank received applications for 50 per cent more funding than for the same period in 2009.
