Market downturn gives Nor-Shipping upturn

Nor-Shipping 2009, the Leading Maritime Event in Oslo June 9-12, expects this year’s gathering to be its biggest and most dynamic in its forty year history, based on current registrations, as well as new investments and partnerships that increase the scope and depth of the exhibition.

Even after introducing a new hall and 30 per cent more space in 2009, the exhibition is practically sold-out. New to the exhibition are thematic pavilions, each with a media partner, additional country pavilions, a recruiting campaign and an exhibition-wide focus on clean shipping and battling climate change.

“We see that a market slowdown increases the importance of the industry’s marketing efforts, at least at key events. For this reason, our message to the market for Nor-Shipping 2009 is ‘Join the Leaders…now more than ever!’,” said Nor-Shipping director Tollef Schiander. He added: “We’ve always brought together leading companies, people and technologies, so it is the natural place for maritime companies to focus their efforts.”

The last Nor-Shipping, in 2007, gathered over 800 exhibitors from 42 countries. Including social and professional arrangements that took place in parallel with Nor-Shipping during the leading maritime event week, the exhibition brought over 25,000 shipping professionals to Oslo.

Nor-Shipping 2009 will feature a restructured floor-plan, designed to increase and aid contact between exhibitors and visitors. Foremost among the changes are five thematic pavilions, which will gather specific sectors in a value-added cluster, each featureinga media partner.
