Designer to discuss global fashion success

Event kicks off CLU School of Business series

(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Sept. 1, 2010) A Norwegian fashion designer will discuss the business model that quickly launched his clothing company into global and celebrity markets at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, in California Lutheran University’s Lundring Events Center.

Stefan Dahlkvist’s presentation, “Going Global: From Norway to the U.S.A. and Beyond,” is the first in the 2010-2011 School of Business (Re) Connections at CLU Series.

Dahlkvist and fellow Norwegian fashion designers Peder Borresen and Simen Staalnacke launched their first collection in 2003 and, within six years, opened stores in Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Holland and Japan. This year, they celebrated the first anniversary of their Robertson Boulevard store in Beverly Hills.

As its slogan “Happy Clothes for Happy People Around the World” suggests, Moods of Norway is not your typical clothing store. Moods is well-known for hot pink plaid and flower-patterned suits for men, beautifully designed dresses for women, and fun unisex T-shirts. Celebrities wearing the designs include Gwen Stefani, Adrian Young, The All American Rejects, Muse and ZZ Top.

Dahlkvist will discuss Moods’ creative and somewhat unconventional global business model and explain how it became popular not just in Norway but also in the United States and around the world. Featuring Norwegian waffles and a Moods of Norway fashion show, “Going Global” promises to be a fun and memorable experience.

Lundring Events Center is located in Gilbert Sports and Fitness Center on the north side of Olsen Road near Campus Drive in Thousand Oaks.

CLU’s School of Business, Graduate School of Business Global Roundtable, Alumni Association and Norwegian Students Club are sponsoring the free event with the Norwegian Seaman’s Church.
